The First Noel, Christmas Project

With Christmas looking like it wasn’t going to be with the usual choirs carolling across the world, we wanted to create a virtual Christmas choir for people to take part in. Choirs across the globe had stopped rehearsing in person, with some taking to digital rehearsals through Zoom, but a lot of choirs stopping all together until they could be back in person, together again.

We thought that if we could put on a free to take part in ensemble, it would spread a little Christmas cheer! and so it did. We had so many lovely comments through the project and after the project with how much people had enjoyed taking part and it really meant the world to us that we had made a difference to some people’s Christmas period!

We present to you, ‘The First Noel’ arranged by David Chase, performed by voices from Newport, to New York with Accompanist: Ryan Wood, Cellist: Nerys Clark and Guide Track Creation: Ian Kimber.

“I was sat at home miserable with all the time having to be spent alone. I'd been singing with the Great British Home Chorus which had kept me going all year. Then on their site was an invitation to join COBRA for their Christmas recording of The First Noel. I clicked on the link and was sent my part. Unfortunately being rather ancient I couldn't work out how to send in my offering but they helped out and eventually I succeeded. Imagine my delight on Christmas Eve when the finished song was released and there I was singing my heart out. It took me a while to recover but it made my Christmas special. I would like to thank you for the experience and would love the chance to sing with you again if you decide to do another project before the world is once again free.” Chris Gould

“Hello from Germany. My name is Astrid and I normally sing a chamber choir and musical ladies ensemble. Because of Corona I came in touch with wonderful virtual choir projects. The COBRA Christmas project was one of my favourites. It was absolutely well organised, the team is very friendly and professional and the final video is just gorgeous. I was so proud of it, so I watched it on Christmas eve with my parents on TV and they were absolutely surprised and wanted to share it right away with all their friends. I am looking forward to further virtual singing projects in 2021 and I am wishing all of us a good time and still pleasure in music and with singing. A big "Thank you" to the COBRA team.” Astrid Weis

“The arrangement of 'The First Notel' was awesome, the video was so creative and beautifully crafted. Thanks so much for this wonderful choral experience. Please do include me in any future projects, if any. Take care and stay safe.” Aisha Elisha
